Vietnam is a beautiful country, rich in history and tradition, which is worth seeing, discovering it from north to south, so it is important to understand what is the best time to visit it at different times of the year, trying to answer the question when to go to Vietnam?
For most of the year, the temperature remains mild, except in some areas of the North. Being a tropical climate, it is divided into dry season and rainy period, influenced by the monsoons, which bring storms and humidity of different magnitude depending on the areas. We have the southwest monsoon, which starts from mid-May to mid-October, storms from North to South, with milder rainfall in the central part, which can be visited without particular problems, considering bringing a raincoat, and the northeast monsoon, generally drier, brings light rainfall to the North, and more frequent in the South, especially from mid-October to December, so in this period visits to Hanoi and Halong Bay can be safely scheduled.
The best time to visit Vietnam in the whole of its territory, goes from February to April although it is good to see in more detail the various climate zones depending on whether you want to visit the north, the center or the south. However, we must bear in mind that in recent years the climate has changed considerably in all parts of the world, so we always take into account that a few days of rain can happen even in a “dry”; period.
Climate North Vietnam
When to go to North Vietnam? During our winter there are quite cool temperatures, especially between December and February, where you can get close to zero, in some hours at night and in mountainous areas. It is therefore good to bring some heavy clothing, especially if you plan to go to Sapa, but also for the evenings in Hanoi, where the average temperature during the day is about 15-20 degrees, not too cold, but not too hot either. From spring the temperature increases pleasantly (the best months are March and April) until May when the rainy season begins and the climate becomes wetter, with mainly evening thunderstorms, which still allow visits during the day, September in our experience, is ideal although many claim that October is the “real end”; of the wet season. We shot Sapa several times after the first half of September and we walked quite nicely. The colors of Sapa, at this time of year, are incredible, perhaps one of the best seasons for visiting, our guide recommended this month to go trekking and to stay overnight in this beautiful area, which however you can explore until early November and then resume from early March. For Halong Bay, the best months remain October and November, although we found nice sunny days even in late December.

Climate central Vietnam
Central Vietnam, in particular Hoi An and Hue, has slightly higher temperatures during the winter months, with peaks of up to 30 degrees, from mid-January to mid-August. The summer rain is less frequent than in other areas of Vietnam and Danang can also be visited until the month of July, after the rains become more frequent, with peaks in October and November. The inland areas of the centre have a fairly humid summer, but all in all less than the other areas of the country, even if the rains are still more abundant than the coast. It’s an area to definitely prefer for those who have in mind a trip in our summer. Nha Trang is absolutely the driest place for all those looking for a seaside resort, the sea is beautiful (considering that we are talking about Vietnam and not the Maldives) and the sunsets worthy of satisfying our desire for Asia. In general, the best time to visit this part is from December to February.
Climate South Vietnam
South Vietnam has a very hot temperature for almost the whole year, starting from an average of about 30° degrees from November to March up to peaks of about 35-37° degrees during the rainy season, with abundant water especially between August and September. The seasons are divided more clearly into dry and wet, from November to April the first, from May to October the second. Occasionally typhoons may occur during the months of September and November, so it is good to avoid this period.
When to go Phu Quoc
When to go to Phu Quoc? Very often we hear this question asked about when to go to the beach in Vietnam. This resort, which is not only the largest island in Vietnam but has beautiful beaches where you can relax at the end of the trip, is a destination chosen by many.
Discovering Phu Quoc can be ideal between November and April, although we had several good weather experiences until late June and then from mid-October. The months to avoid are certainly July, August and September, where the rains are more abundant.
