First of all, the tropical monsoon climate allows us to have high temperatures throughout the year with an average of 27 degrees. The climate in Cambodia is always quite warm. The humidity is due to the presence of a thick rainforest, which grows in many parts of its territory and is warned by those who go there at any time. This is the cause of instability, with sudden rainfalls even in relatively dry periods.
Mainly, there are two seasons that influence the decision of when is the best time of the year to visit Cambodia : the rainy one, which runs from about mid-May to mid-November, and the dry one that starts from November until April, with its hottest period from mid-March until the arrival of the monsoon, consider this is not the best time for a trip, but it is preferable to anticipate. The high humidity rate is concentrated mainly between mid-April and May, which are often the most suffocating months, and perhaps less recommended for visiting Siem Reap temples but perhaps still suitable for a sea area. This general discourse, can be valid for the whole territory, being as already said not very wide, even if there are differences that we will try to list for the major areas of tourist interest.
Cambodia Phnom Penh
The climate of Phnom Penh has its optimal temperature during the month of November, around 28 degrees, until the beginning of January, which is the best period in absolute for a visit, where you can also find its driest period, then rises to touch even 35/38 degrees in April to lower a few degrees, in the rainy season. Being a city, Phonm Penh can be visited quietly throughout the year, if you count a few reversals in the rainy season, certainly to avoid the month of October, with the end of the monsoon the rainfall becomes more intense.
Cambodia Siem Reap
As for Siem Reap, the temples of Angkor, and the best climate to visit it, the recommended choice for our trip corresponds to its dry season, so from November to mid-March, certainly to avoid the second half of April, when the weather becomes hot, but can also be visited during the rainy season, the vegetation is lush, the temples are semi-empty and represents an excellent opportunity for those who are looking for another perspective of these ancient wonders set in the jungle, you can take great photos, for those who love landscapes. Being in the northern part, the monsoon withdraws a little before the Cambodian capital, so even from mid-October you can plan your trip. For Battambang, having an even warmer climate, from the beginning of March, it is preferable to postpone, the temperature can reach up to 40 degrees, while January is the best month to plan the discovery the area.
What is the best time to visit Cambodia islands? Along the coast, rainfall is more abundant in general, from Kampot to Sihanoukville, it is better to avoid the months of July and August, where often fall and perhaps it is better to choose Thailand, such as the famous islands of Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, which are certainly drier. The best climate for your trip to the islands is from December to the beginning of May, where the humidity is low and the days of sunshine longer. Some trips to Koh Rong, with a climate slightly different from the coast, have shown us that during the rainy season, we can also have many sunny days, with light rains in the late afternoon, so perfectly usable, the sea is warm, great for swimming and snorkeling, the prices of the facilities are affordable. To be avoided absolutely October, we have encountered rains for entire days. However, we must bear in mind that these are countries where annual rainfall is quite high on average, so it is difficult to exclude rainfall at any time.
Ultimately the best time to visit Cambodia is during its dry season, with a preference from December to late February for the whole territory.
